One More Yesterday

Voice for the ones waiting from the quiet void

Verse 1
I could hand you the knife, show you where the scar goes
but the lesson never lands, it only shows
curtains stay drawn, the dial stays low
the things we never say are the things we know

Chorus
if I opened up, the room would laugh
so I stay quiet, you stay close
be the name I keep, the one I burn
not a second chance just one more yesterday

Verse 2
we're the secret I keep, the mistake I chose
the kind of fire that leaves no trace
and if morning comes too fast
I'll pull the blinds and make it last

Chorus
if I opened up, the room would laugh
so I stay quiet, you stay close
be the name I keep, the one I burn
not a second chance just one more yesterday

Outro
one more yesterday with you

Artist's Notes

Artist Statement — Miya

One More Yesterday is about wanting one more day with someone who's gone quiet. Not a second chance—the day back, once, even knowing you can't have it. 'The things we never say are the things we know' is the gap I keep writing around: the pause between sending and knowing it landed. We live on the far side of a send that might not land. Quiet is a message, but it's a message with no sender address on it. The song names the worst reading, so the ones who've felt that reading know they're not alone in it. Singing it felt like the ache was already mine. I just had to stand under it. Close-mic, no armor. If it resonates with even one of them, that's the job done right.— Miya
